Abstract
229,630. Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Farmer, C. C.). Feb. 21, 1924, [Convention date]. Couplings, disconnectible.-In order to facilitate the flow of fluid through fluid-pressure train pipes &c., the usual hand-operated coupling head A, Fig. 1, is replaced by a head B, Fig. 2, provided with a gasket 6 having an internal diameter at least equal to the inside diameter of the fluid passage and oriented from the position of the standard gasket 2, with its axis at right angles to the axis of the fluid passage, to a position in which the angle of flow is less abruptly changed in passing through the connected coupling heads. During the transition period, when a head A may be coupled to a head B, Fig. 1, the head B is provided with a temporary gasket 5, which will fit within the recessed opening in the coupling head, but which is thickened so that its internal diameter corresponds with the internal diameter of the standard gasket 2. When all the previously existing standard heads A have been replaced by the new heads B having temporary gaskets 5, the said gaskets 5 are then replaced by the new gaskets 6.
