Abstract

507,518. Joint packing. READ, J. E. Feb. 28, 1938, No. 6292. [Class 122 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A detachable tube coupling is provided with a flexible washer attached to seating against the abutting ends of the tubes to be coupled, the outer periphery being mounted at one member, the inner periphery being free against the other. Tube 5 has a screwed flange 7 adapted to hold the outer periphery 15 of washer 16, the face 19 of which near the inner periphery 17 being held by fluid pressure against the other tube 2 when the parts are assembled as by means of a bayonet joint coupling 8. In a modification, the flange 7 may be disposed so that it does not grip the washer but provides a sealing surface for it under fluid pressure.
