Heating systems. -In an arc welding apparatus provided with an auxiliary resistance 6 arranged in parallel with the welding arc and automatically switched in and completely or almost completely cut out alternately with the arc by means of a core 9 operated by a coil 10 in the arc circuit, a second coil 11, permanently connected to a source of current, is arranged on the core 9 or a separate core connected therewith and tends to move the core 9 in the opposite direction to the coil 10, but is less powerful than the latter. The coil 11 may be energized from a separate source switched on when the welding apparatus is connected to the generator.
