Abstract

462,043. Control of A.C. and D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. May 23, 1935, No. 15079. Void. Convention date, May 24, 1934. [Class 38 (iii)] A self-reducing resistance 2, Fig. 1, for starting a motor 1 is short-circuited at the end of a starting operation by means of a thermal or electromagnetic switch 6 energized by the motor current or from the motor terminals. Alternatively the short-circuiting may be effected by centrifugal or fan-operated switches. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the resistance 2 is short-circuited by an electromagnetic switch 7 energized from the motor terminals, and a main electromagnetic switch 8 in the motor circuit is energized by the closure of a switch 9 over back-contacts 12, 13, the energizing circuit being connected across the supply in series with a resistance 11. The circuit comprising the energizing coil 10 of the switch 8, the contacts 12, 13, and the switch 9 is in parallel with the resistance 2 so that reclosure of the motor circuit may be effected only when the resistance 2 has sufficiently cooled.
