Abstract
227,027. Schimonsky, H. von Schimony-. April 14, 1924. Locks, revolving- barrel; hasp locks; lock mechanism, operated by non-rotary key. - A revolving barrel lock is constructed so that release of the key after partial revolution of the rotatable member results in relocking. The invention is illustrated as applied to a padlock 1 with an internal hand-operated shackle 8 bridging a gap 5 in the casing to secure a staple 6. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the shackle 8 is locked by the flange 14 on a rotatable disc 13 carrying sliding tumblers 18, 19, 20 which, in locking position, engage between members of a series of stops 28 mounted in a circle on the cover plate 3. The tumblers 18, 20 slide between inturned ends 17 of semicircular members 15, 16 rigidly secured to the top face of the disc 13, and are caused to engage between pairs of stops 28 by springs 22 attached to wings 21 on the tumblers. When the key is inserted into the keyhole 26, it engages notches 23 in the tumblers, sliding them to disengage them from between the stops 28, and its end engages a rectangular slot 27 in the disc 13. The disc 13 can now be turned by the key until a slot 9<1> in it is aligned with a slot 9 in the casing 1, allowing the shackle 8 to be moved by means of its knob 11 to release the staple 6. If the key is removed before the disc 13 is rotated to its unlocking position, the sliders are released to engage other stops 28 of the series and the disc is relocked. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the disc 13 carrying the sliders 18, 19, 20 is fixed to the casing 21 and the cover plate 3<1> carrying the stops 28 is rotated by the knob 29 when the key is inserted into the keyhole 26 to disengage the sliders from the stops. This brings a notch 9 in the cover plate into alignment with the notch 9' in the flange of the disc 13, allowing the shackle 8 to be moved.
