Abstract

226,851. Democratis, J. Aug. 30, 1923. Parachutes.- The rigging lines or tapes from the outer periphery of a parachute are arranged so that one or more can be slackened bv the aviator during a descent in order to relieve the load on a portion or portions of the fabric and so quicken the descent. The rigging may subsequently be tightened to restore the original speed of descent. The Figure shows the rigging lines connected to fittings Y, Z of which the fitting Y can be released or drawn in by manipulating a cord B passed over a pulley V on the fitting. This arrangement also prevents the aviator from being dragged along the ground after landing.
