Abstract

931,255. Parachutes. J. MARTIN. June 2, 1961 [June 23, 1960], No. 22048/60. Class 4. Parachute apparatus comprises main and drogue parachutes 4, 3 connected in series, and at least one anti-squid line 13 within the main parachute 4 preventing squidding of parachute 4 under drogue drag loads applied to its crown but being ineffective and permitting squidding upon deployment of parachute 3 at air speeds in excess of that at which full deployment of parachute 4 is permissible. The line 13 extends between the parachute crown and the two front buckles 12 connecting shroud lines 10 to harness 11, the line parting to permit squidding of parachute 4, Fig. 4 (not shown). A controlled parachute 1 has an anti-squid line 2 and is projected by a projectile 5 fired from a drogue gun on an ejector seat. Specifications 583,257, 711,234. 761,261 and 870,629 are referred to.
