Abstract
226,532. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hodgkinson, F.). Dec. 21, 1923, [Convention date]. Nozzles.-A nozzle block is formed from two contacting arcuate, segments having complementary recesses to provide a nozzle space and one or more partitions dividing this space into nozzles. In the nozzle block 20 for an axial-flow impulse turbine shown in Figs. 2 and 4, concentric segments 21, 22 are cut away at 24 - - 31 to form complementary parts of the first of a series of steam inlet chambers and expanding passage and similarly at 34 and so on. Slots 36, 37 are provided to receive partitions 23 having chamfered outlet ends 40 which stop short of the outlet formed by the segment. The parts when assembled are united by welding or brazing, for example by placing wires of copper or brass adjacent to the joints and heating in an atmosphere of hydrogen or nitrogen. Blocks for radial flow turbines may be similarly formed of two complemental halves 45, 46 machined to form a nozzle space 47 which is subdivided by diaphragm members 48 such as that shown in Fig. 9.
