Abstract
Apparatus for use to assist in papering, painting and decoration of ceilings comprises, a square base 1 mounted on 4 casters 2. Mounted to this is a main support section 5 to which can be attached an adjustable tube 5 with frame on which there are rollers 11, one being adjustable. In use a pasted section of ceiling paper, up to 25 feet (7.620mm) in length is placed over the rollers. The apparatus can then be moved into the papering position and by adjusting the height via the adjustable tube 5 and the height adjustment bar roller 8, allows the user, once on steps, to position the ceiling paper and install it in the conventional manner. Other supports for holding liquids, paints and for supporting ceiling beams or other horizontal members can replace the papering assisting frame. <IMAGE>
Description
APPARATUS FOR USE TO ASSIST IN PAPERING, PAINTING AND THE
DECORATION OF CEILINGS
This invention relates to apparatus for use to assist in papering, painting and the decoration of ceilings.
To support ceiling paper when papering a ceiling is a difficult task to perform usually involving two people and needs a great deal of skill if it is to be done neatly and quickly. It usually proves even more difficult to the lone do-it-yourself home decorator. Also the problem of holding paints in a secure situation whilst painting ceilings if often difficult. Decoration of ceilings with beams or the manoevrering of other horizontal framing members is often impossible for a line decorator or handyman.
According to the present invention there is provided apparatus for use in assisting in papering, painting and decoration of ceilings, comprising a base with means of mobility to which is mounted an adjustable tube which supports a frame with adjustable plurality means of supporting pasted ceiling paper prior to affixing to a ceiling, the frame for supporting the ceiling paper can be replaced with supports for liquids, paints and ceiling beams or other framing members by means of attachment to another adjustable tube.
It is preferred that the base be square and the means of mobility comprise of casters.
It is also preferred, the adjustable tube comprises of two square tubes, one inside the other and secured, when extended, by a safety lock key.
It is also preferred, the adjustable tube be T-shaped that supports the frame which consist of two equally spaced parallel members and a pair of height adjustment bars on each side of the frame side panels, which also has slotted means at the front to help in height adjustment process.
It is also preferred, the plurality means of supporting the ceiling paper consists of rollers, the front one being adjustable, the other rollers being mounted centrally and at the rear of the frame.
It is also preferred, the replaceable supports for holding paints or liquids consist of a support bar for liquids and a rectangular shaped carrier for solid paint trays and a
U-shaped bracket for the support of ceiling beams or other horizontal members.
It is also preferred, the means of attachment of the replaceable supports to the adjustable tube be by slotted machine screw.
Embodiment of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with ref to the accompanying drawings, in which:

apparatus
Referring to the drawings, the apparatus for use in assisting with papering, painting and the decoration of ceilings comprises an 18 inch (530mm) square, solid wood, or any other suitable material, base 1 mounted on a series of four casters 2. Mounted Oll its centre via a series ot tIree steel angle brackets 3 is a 2 inch (50mm) square metal tube 4 measuring 44 inches (1.120mm) in length.Telescopically mounted inside this is a T-shaped roller support tube 5 measuring 48 inches (1.220mm) in length. Its height is adjustable up to a maximum of 9 feet (2.75mm) via a safety lock key 6, which passes through a slotted hole 7 near the upper portion of the main support section 4, the end coming into contact with its outer wall.
Mounted centrally on the adjustable T-shaped roller support tube 5 are the roller frame side panels 8, one end slotted 8(a) to help with the height adjustment process. The roller side panels are strengthened by 2 equally spaced parallel members 9. Two rollers 23 inches (58mm) in length are mounted on the roller frame side panels 8 with nylon bushes 12 by push fit. The front of the frame consists of height adjustment bars 10 and a 23 inch (58mm) roller 11. The roller is secured to these via a pair of coach-bolt and wing-nut assemblies 13, thus permitting the vertical height to be adjusted.
The roller support bar and rollers can be replaced with an adjustable tube 17 and telescopically mounted into the main support section 4 and a support bracket 14 comprising a flat bar formed to make opposing end walls, a rod formed to the necessary shape 14(a) is attached to the flat bar and a hook 14(b) is centrally fixed to the top of the rod, can be attached.
A carrier, rectangular in shape, is formed to make opposing end walls 15, four metal spring clips 15(a) are attached to the tray section of the carrier, two either side, can also be attached to the adjustable tube 17.
A U-shape bracket 16 consisting of a flat bar formed into the necessary shape can also be attached to the adjustable tube 17.
The apparatus may be manufactured from a number of different materials, stamped steel sheet, solid wood or plywood for the base 1, caster 2, mounting brackets 3 would be standard components. The horizontal frame members 9 could be made from cut lengths of galvanized square steel tubing or small size angle-iron 9, the roller frame side panels 8 from painted or galvanized steel stampings, bolted, or otherwise fastened together in the desired configuration. The rollers 11 could be made from extruded polyvinychloride tubing, their mounting hubs and bushings 12 from injected moulded nylon. The safety-lock key 6 can be made from mild steel rod. Other components would include all nuts, bolts, screws and other common assembly hardware. The replaceable supporting bracket 14, carrier 15 and the U-shape bracket 16 can be made from mild steel flat bars and mild steel rod.
In papering mode use, a length of ceiling paper, up to 25 feet in length (7.620mm) is first pasted or dipped in water, if the pre-pasted type, and placed over the rollers 11.
The loading of the ceiling paper is done at apparatus lowest height, after paper is loaded on to the rollers 11 the apparatus can be easily moved into position required for being affixed to the ceiling. Raise the adjustable roller support bar 5 to required position and secure with the safety-lock key 6. Once on steps and after adjusting the height adjustment bar 10 to within the required distance from ceiling, the apparatus allows the user to position the ceiling paper and install it in the conventional manner. The base casters 2 making easy movement of the apparatus.
The adjustable roller support bar 5 can be replaced by an adjustable tube 17 on which can be attached a support bracket 14 or rectangular carrier 15 for the support of liquids and solid paint trays to complete ceiling decoration.
A U-shaped bracket 16 can also be attached to the adjustable tube 17 to enable support of ceiling beams or other horizontal framing members.
After use the T-shaped roller support bar 5 and rollers 11, the adjustable tube 17 can be detached from the main support stand 4 and the adjustable tube's 17 attachments 14, 15, 16 can be detached for easy storage.
Modifications and improvements may be incorporated without departing from the scope of the invention.
