Envelopes, making. - A shaped envelope blank is fed by means of a belt 15 on to fixed guides 19 and against stops 66 adjustably secured to a bar 67 which carries a bottom-flap folding plate 68. Forming blades 12, 13 are carried in slideways 27 and are reciprocated by means of levers 56 on a rod 54 driven from acam 40. The slides 27 are adjustably mounted on a cross-member 30. A cam 79 operates levers 74 carrying the folding plate 68 so that the bottom-flap is turned upwards by the plate and then folded against the body of the envelope by the descent of the blades 12, 13, which make close contact with the plate 68, and press the envelope between rollers 86, 87. The levers 74 are carried by a shaft 75 on which the lever 77 co-operating with the cam 79 is loosely mounted. A spring 83 connects the shaft 75 and lever 77, so that in the event of the blade 68 jamming, the mechanism'yields and prevents breakage.
