222,542. Pearce, G. W. June 4, 1923. Lever-actuated pumps; counterbalances; reciprocating-cylinder pumps; delivery pipes.- On pumps wherein the weight of the column of liquid being raised is counterbalanced either by a weight or by arranging two pumps working in opposition, the piston and delivery pipe are fixed, and the cylinder reciprocates. In Fig. 1, the cylinder a, which may be of inverted-U shape, carries inlet and outlet valves c, d, and is reciprocated by a weighted beam e over a fixed piston b. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, two cylinders a, a<4> are connected to a common chamber a<3>; one carries a delivery valve d and the other reciprocates over a fixed piston b. The beam may be connected to the chamber a<3> or the cylinder a'. In a further modification, pumps similar to that shown in Fig. 1 are connected to the opposite ends of a centrally-pivoted beam.
