Abstract
222,512. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Morgan, D. W. R.). Sept. 28, 1923, [Convention date]. Surface condensers; condenser systems.-In a condenser, especially one of the radial-flow surface type, provided with a separate chamber for cooling the air before its passage to the air pump, the condensate from the main condensing chamber and that from the air-cooling chamber pass through water seals on their way to the condensate pump. The air-cooling chamber 21 is separated from the body of the condenser by side plates. 24, 25 forming passages for the air, and a top plate 29 carrying a conduit 31 by which the air, after passing over the tubes in the chamber 21, is delivered to air-exhaust passages 33. A baffle 36 is provided to prevent condensate from the upper tubes entering the passages between the plates 24, 25. The condensate from the main condenser passes to a collecting-chamber 38 through pockets 43 into which baffles 44 dip so as to form water seals. The condensate from the chamber 21 passes to the chamber 38 through a conduit 41 dipping into a cup 39 so as to form a water seal. A small vent-hole may be provided between the chambers 21 and 38, and the chamber 38 is connected to the condensate pump.
