Each frame 14 has vertical side members 15 provided with a longitudinally extending part-circular section channel 16 and interposed between adjacent side members 15 is a vertical circular-section tube 17 which is received in the adjacent channels 16, said side members 15 being secured to the tube 17. Eaves beams 19 have expansible spigots 20 engaged in the tops of tubes 17 and mount supports 28, for rafters 13b. A ventilator fan 40 protected by hood 41 is mounted on the roof. The gap 44 at the bottom of hood 41 is openable/closable by a cone (not shown) slidable on rod 42. <IMAGE>
Description
BUILDING STRUCTURE
This invention relates to a building structure and particularly, but not exclusively, to a glazed structure such as a conservatory.
According to the present invention in one aspect there is provided a building structure having a framework which includes at least two structural component parts disposed in side-by-side or end-to-end relationship, adjacent side or end edges of said two structural parts each being provided with a longitudinally extending part-circular section or substantially part-circular section channel, a longitudinally extending circular-section or substantially circular-section pole or tube interposed between said two structural parts and received in said channels, and means securing said two structural parts to said pole or tube.
The means securing said two structural parts to said pole or tube may comprise nails, screws or bolts.
According to the present invention in another aspect there is provided a building structure having a roof structure provided with a plurality of rafters which are radially disposed relative to each other, the upper end of each of said rafters being mounted on and supported by a horizontal circular support member.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conservatory structure embodying the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of part of the structure in exploded form;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of some of the connector elements used in constructing the structure;
Figure 4 shows part of the roof structure during construction;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of part of the roof structure and a ventilator;
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing a ventilator hood; and
Figure 7 shows apparatus for moving the ventilator.
The conservatory structure shown in Figure 1 comprises a framework forming vertical side wall parts 10, vertical end wall parts 11 which are disposed at an angle relative to each other, and a roof structure formed by horizontal ridge members 12 and inclined rafters 13.
The framework forming the vertical side and end wall parts 10 and 11 is shown more clearly in Figures 2 and 3 and comprises rectangular frames 14 disposed in side-by-side relationship. Each frame 14 has vertical side members 15 each provided with a longitudinally extending part-circular section channel 16. Interposed between adjacent side members 15 is a vertical circular-section tube 17 which is received in the adjacent channels 16. The side members 15 are secured to the tube 17 by securing members 18 which may comprise nails, screws or bolts. The vertical tubes 17 enable the adjacent rectangular frames 14 to be aligned or angled relative to each other before they are secured to the tubes 17.
The channels 16 may be substantially part-circular, e.g. the surface of the channels may be formed by a plurality of flat surfaces arranged on an arc, and the tubes 17 may be of substantially circular-section, e.g. the outer surface of the tubes may be formed by a plurality of flat surfaces arranged in a circle.
A waterproof sealing material is preferably provided between the channels 16 and the tubes 17, such as a silicon sealing material. Such a sealing material may be in the form of a sleeve provided on the tube 17.
Adjacent tubes 17 are interconnected at their upper ends by horizontal bars 19. Each bar 19 is provided at one end with a connector 20 having a cylindrical portion 21 which can be received in the upper end of a tube 17. The cylindrical portion 21 is provided with part-circular members 22, each of which contacts a wedge-shaped part 23 of the portion 21 and can be moved vertically relative to the portion 21 by screws 24. As the members 22 move up the wedge-shaped part 23 they also move radially outwardly so as to tightly engage the bore of the tube 17. The connector 20 is also provided with a part-circular recess 25 on its upper side.
At its other end each bar 19 is provided with a connector 26 having a stepped part-circular portion 27 which in use is received in the part-circular recess 25 of an adjacent connector 20.
Mountable on each connector 26 is a pivot connector 28. The vertically aligned connector 20, connector 26 and pivot connector 28 are secured together by a screw or bolt 29. Each pivot connector 28 is provided with a transverse hole 30 through which extends a pin 30a which serves to connect the bottom end of rafter 13 to the pivot connector 28.
Rafters 13a are connected at their upper end to the ridge members 12 by similar pivot connectors 28.
A plurality of rafters 13b are radially disposed relative to each other and at their upper end are provided with connectors 31 which are pivotably connected thereto by hinge pins 32. Each connector 31 is provided with a hook-like portion 33 which hooks over the peripheral wall 34 of a horizontal circular support member 35. The support member 35 has a web 36 provided with a central tube 37. During the construction of the roof structure the support member 35 is located and held in position at the end of the ridge members 12 by a vertically adjustable temporary support 38 which engages the central tube 37. When the support member 35 is located in the desired position, the hook-like portion 33 of each connector 31 is engaged with the peripheral wall 34 and a retainer 39 is bolted to the underside of the connector 31.When all of the rafters 13b have been secured to the support member 35, the temporary support 38 is removed.
A ventilation fan unit 40 is mounted on the support member 35 and the fan unit 40 is covered by a cover 41 supported from a vertical rod 42 fixed to the fan unit 40. The bottom of the cover 41 is spaced from the roof covering 43 and an air gap 44 is provided between the covering 43 and the support member 35. Slidably mounted on the rod 42 is a frustoconical vent member 45 which is vertically movable by a lever system 46 actuated by a solenoid 47.
The ridge of the roof structure is provided with a ventilation duct 48.
The vertical tubes 17 may be replaced by a circular section pole which may be solid and connectors may be secured to the upper end of the pole.
The parts of the structure may be formed of wood, plastics or metal.
The frames 14 may be glazed or provided with panels and glazing.
The joints between adjacent vertical side members 15 may be covered by a covering strip 49.
