Description

p 4 1 FOOD CONTAINER 2218962 The invention concerns a container having an
outer container body with a bottom and an upper portion, and having a cover detachably mountable thereon. Such containers are known. They can be produced cheaply from a plastic material.
The invention is based on the problem of creating a container of this kind which can accommodate separately two foods, and which allows these foods to be mixed and eaten without any additional auxiliary means. Yet the container should be hygienically sound, and be capable of being made inexpensively as a mass- produced article.
Ac(prdingly, the present invention provides a food container having an outer container body with a bottom, an upper wall portion, and an intermediate wall portion therebetween; a cover detachably fixable to the upper portion; an inner container body removably arranged within the outer container body and having a closed bottom, and an upper portion; and a detachable cover for the inner container body portion, said inner container body being dimensioned and supported in the outer container body in such a way that together with the upper wall portion of the outer container body the two covers form a first compartment able to accommodate at least one item of a cutlery set; wherein together with the intermediate wall portion of the outer container body, the two bottoms form a second compartment able to accommodate a food which is intended to be mixed in the first container body with a further food which can be accommodated in the second container body so the mixture can be eaten from the first container body.
The inner container body can, for example, contain yoghurt and the outer container body may contain cereal flakes. In use, the cover is removed from the outer 1 k_ 2 container body and the cutlery set is taken out. Thereupon the cover of the inner container body is removed, for which purpose it can be taken out of the outer container body. The contents of the inner container body are now added to the contents of the outer container body and the two ingredients are mixed. The dish prepared in this way can now be eaten directly with the cutlery set which was taken out of the outer container body.
In a further development of the invention, the two covers are foils, heat-sealed to the respective container bodies, and which can be individually pulled off by hand. This provides a particularly cheap and aseptic closing of the container bodies, which is nevertheless removable in a simple manner. An additional cover may be provided if it is wished that the opened outer container body should be subsequently re-used together with this cover, for example, as a container for frozen products.' This optional additional cover would also allow the containers to be stacked.
A particularly advantageous container, as regards packaging, is obtained by providing the outer container body with an inwardly projecting shoulder on which an outwardly projecting rim of the inner container body may bear.
The container of the present invention is particularly suitable for a dish of cereal flakes and yoghurt to be mixed together, or for a similar dairy product. The sensitive yoghurt is preferably accommodated in the inner container body, where it is doubly protected against the ambient air by the cover of the inner container and that of the outer container.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be explained in greater detail, merely by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- FIGURE 1 is a cross-section through a container 1-1 1 1 k, 1r 3 according to the invention; FIGURE 2 illustrates the removal of the outer container body, and is a cross-section through the container; 5 FIGURE 3 illustrates the extraction of the inner container body, again as a cross- section; and FIGURE 4 shows stacked containers, in crosssection.
As shown in Figure 1, the container has an outer container body 1 and an inner container body 5 which are both made of a plastic material and each have a closed bottom 2 or 6, respectively.
The outer container body 1 has an upper portion 3 with an outwardly projecting rim 13 and an inwardly is projecting shoulder 15. The inner container body 5 is supported, by way of an integrally moulded rim 16, on this shoulder 15.
A cover 4 of foil is heat-sealed to the rim 13, but can be pulled off by hand to open the container; it may for this purpose have tabs, not shown here. A similar cover 8 is heat- sealed to the rim 16 of the inner container body 5. This cover 8 is provided with two projecting tabs 17, to facilitate pulling the cover 8 off completely from the inner container body 5 in order to open it. As shown in Figure 3, these tabs 17 can also be used to extract the inner container body 5 from the outer container body 1.
Between its rim 13 and the shoulder 15 the outer container body 1 has a peripheral wall portion 1-a which, together with the covers 4 and 8. forms a first compartment A in which is located a spoon 9 which lies on the cover 8 and which can be taken out after the cover 4 has been removed.
The outer container body 1 also has a peripheral wall portion lb between the bottoms 6 and 2 which, together with those bottoms, forms a second compartment B for a food 1 k_ 4 10, for example, cereal flakes. A further food 11, for example, yoghurt or similar, which is to be mixed together with the food 10 is located in the inner container body 5 which lies over the first-mentioned food 10 and is enclosed 5 by the tightly engaged cover 8.
After the covers 4 and 8 have been removed, this second food 11 can be put into the outer container body 1 and mixed with the first-mentioned food 10, if desired.
The container has an additional cover 12 on which is moulded a rim 14 projecting downwardly from the plane of the cover 12 and which is detachably engaged on the rim 13 of the outer container body 1. This cover 12 has a wall thickness approximately corresponding to that of the outer container body 1, this allowing several of the containers to be stacked as shown in Figure 4. As may be seen in Figures 1 and 4, the cover 12 has a central raised portion 19 which engages in a corresponding base 18 (Figure 4) of the next container located above it in a stack.
