Abstract

220,864. Kealy, M. Dec. 4, 1923. Seed drills; harrows.-Sowing-apparatus is combined with a prong or spring-tine harrow in such a way as to sow seeds in the furrows formed by the harrow. The seed box 1 is detachably connected to the harrow frame 2 and handle 7 by supports 3, 4. Within the box 1 is a shaft 16 carrying agitating wheels 15 having teeth in the form of staples. The shaft 16 is driven by chain gearing from a ground wheel 20 mounted in a frame 32 shaped like the frame of a bicycle and adjustably and detachably connected to the box 1 and the handle 7. The seeds are discharged through orifices 11 into shoots 12 leading to seed tubes 13 extending to the backs of all the harrow tines 14. The discharge is regulated by means of a perforated slide 16<1>. The seed tubes 13 pass through straps 30 on the tines 14 and are curved forwardly between plates 29 which prevent lateral spreading of the seeds.
