Abstract
219,747. Binnie, T. May 3, 1923. Protectors, construction of.-Rubber and like composition heel pads 7, Fig. 3, are provided with one or more upstanding projections 9 reinforced with metal insets 10, to engage corresponding recesses in a similarly.shaped heel layer 2, Fig. 4, made of aluminium or other preferably hard-wearing material nailed or screwed to the upper part of a heel. The aluminium or equivalent layer is concaved on its lower surface, and the pad is either flat on its upper surface and convex on its lower surface, or vice versa, so as to make a close fit with the upper part. The forward part of the pad is provided with an upstanding flange 13 secured by screws 18<a> to the breast portion of the heel. In a modification, Fig. 1, the rear part 14 of the upper pad is made revoluble upon its central upstanding part by being severed along a line 15. The screwed holes and nail holes may be plugged with rubber.
