Abstract

216,493. Packard Motor Car Co., (Assignees of Woolson, L. M.). May 25, 1923, [Convention date]. Valves.-The poppet valve 32 is held to its seat by a series of springs 44 made of relatively small radius, so that their natural frequency is considerably in excess of that of the engine vibrations. The springs are arranged upon guide pins 42 disposed around the valve stem. The pins 42 may stop short of the spring collar 37 as shown, or may extend therethrough. Valve gear.-The valve is actuated by a. cam 19 bearing on a tappet or crosshead 34 sliding in guides 36.
