Abstract
214,208. Dondelinger, F. April 14, 1923, [Convention date]. Vibration-dampers; dash-pots. - In shockabsorbers of the friction-disc type by which the return of the suspension springs of vehicles to normal position is braked by means of a resilient device which is initially in compression and lengthens without opposing effort when the shockabsorber moves from its normal position, but resists return to that position, the resilient device is interposed between two points on each of the arms of the shock-absorber. Forked arms 1, 1<1>, Fig. 1, are pivoted together at one end by a bolt 2, friction washers 3 being interposed as shown in Fig. 2. The other ends of the arms are secured to the vehicle chassis and axle respectively. A piston 10 is attached at 13 to depending forked lugs 14 and is adapted to slide in a cylinder 7 carried by trunnions 8 on the arm 1<1>. A compression spring 11 is interposed between the piston and cylinder. In the position of equilibrium, the points 2, 8, 13 are in one and the same straight line, and on movement of the arms 1, 1<1>, the piston 10 slides out of the cylinder 7 the compressed spring 11 assisting this action and opposing the friction of the friction washers 3. The return is braked in a resiliently progressive manner by the spring 11. Instead of a spring 11, the cylinder may contain air or liquid and the piston may be provided with valves or apertures. The arms 1, 1<1> are connected to the chassis and axle by means of a cup 16, Fig. 3, integral with the arms and containing a cylindrical block 17 slotted or cut to accommodate a pivoted fork 21 attached to the axle 2.
