612,701. Road-vehicle suspensions; springs &c. SPENCER MOULTON & CO., Ltd., G. and MOULTON, A. E. May 31, 1946, No. 16578. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)) Relates to an independent wheel suspension for motor vehicles using a transverse quadrilateral link mounting 4, 5, 10, Fig. 1, for the wheel 2 and comprising a guide member 13, Fig. 2, sliding in a bush 17 on the vehicle frame 1 and surrounded by a column of rubber units 12 composed by upward movement of the member 13, the units being separated by plates 20 riding on the member 13. According to the invention, the member 13 is not subjected to longitudinal stress during its upward movement. The lower end of the tube 13 is welded to a flange 24 and an eye 14, the latter being pivotally attached to a bracket 15 on the lower wishbone 4 through a bush 23 which may be resilient. The plates 20 have engaged bosses 21 sliding easily in the tube 13, which may be hard chromium-plated, and are either bonded to the rubber units or formed with webs 22 engaging grooves therein. The uppermost plate 18 abuts a bracket 16 on the frame 1 and carries the spherical, self-oiling bush 17. To absorb rebound shocks, a rubber element 25 is mounted between the upper face of the bracket 16 and the lower face of a retaining member 26 attached to the tube 13 by pins 27. A cap 29 excludes dirt.
