Valves. - A sleeve valve E for a twostroke engine is formed with ports e, e<1> controlling respectively the transfer and exhaust ports a, a<1>, and controls the inlet c to the crank case by its lower edge. The sleeve is driven by an auxiliary crank D<1> set 90‹ in advance of the main crank and connected by a rod d<1> to a bracket e<2>, which is fixed to the sleeve and slides in guideways formed in the crank case. In a modification, the crank D<1> is replaced by an eccentric, and the sleeve has a sideways, as well as a longitudinal, movement. When the explosion occurs, the sleeve is on its downstroke and transmits the pressure exerted on its upper end to the crank shaft.
