Abstract

207,258. Broadhead, C. F. Aug. 22, 1922. Producers. - In a continuous process for the complete gasification of coal, three separate but interconnected generators are employed each having a retort with double walls superimposed on a water gas generator, the threeway valves controlling the supply of air, steam and tar and the gas outlet being automatically operated. Each retort has double walls E, F and is surrounded bv a flue G, and ports K are provided' between the generators D and combustion spaces L through which the blow gases pass into the space between the walls E and F as well as into flues G if desired. Air, steam and tar are supplied through valves N. O and R respectively, a change-over gas valve P and outlet valve Q being provided, all the valves being automatically operated from a vertical shaft T in proper order of rotation. When No. 1 generator is being blown, its air blast valve N and stack valve S being open, No. 2 is on the down run steam being admitted by valve O and tar by valve R and the steam and gases generated are passed through valve P up No. 3 generator and through the retort to the outlet valve Q. Each generator is operated in turn No. 3 taking the place of No. 1 and so on. Auxiliary gas outlets W connect each retort to the gas main so that gases generated in a retort during the blow or downward run period may pass into the main. The base of the gas valves P is cooled by the air entering the valve N the air being thereby heated before entering the generators and the valve heads are air or watercooled internally. The retort walls are provided with projectors V, V<1> formed on their inner sides and are formed in sections fitted together. Specification 122,179 is referred to.
