Abstract

An air compressing internal- combustion engine has a governing device producing a force dependent on the pump speed or engine speed and an adjustably loaded leaf spring 12 which determines the no-load speed by acting at point 15 upon the governing device linkage and which is abutted at two points 13 & 14 fixed in relation to a housing. Abutment 13 is adjustable by screw 16 to set the no-load speed. Abutment 14 is movable by expansible element 21 which is heated by winding 20, which is electrically energised when the engine is switched on. Either abutment 13 or 14 may be movable by the expansible element to provide an increase in the no-load speed when the engine is cold. <IMAGE>
