Abstract

1320289 Fuel injection systems GENERAL MOTORS CORP 4 May 1972 [24 May 1971] 20843/72 Heading G1N In an I. C. engine intermittent fuel injection system, the inductance of an inductor, energized with a current having a linearly varying magnitude, is varied in response to the rate of change of an adjustable throttle member so as to develop across the inductor a throttle voltage having an amplitude proportional to the inductance, the amount of fuel delivered being regulated in response to the throttle voltage. As shown, injection valve energizing pulses are provided by a monostable circuit 92, the duration of the pulses being determined by the inductance of a transformer 94 in dependence upon the intake manifold vacuum, and by the magnitude of a bias voltage at a junction 118. The bias voltage is varied in dependence upon the throttle voltage provided by circuitry within a transient power controller 146, Fig.3 (not shown). Basically, this controller includes a throttle voltage generator responsive to the output pulses of the monostable circuit to develop the throttle voltage, and a bias voltage modifier which compares the throttle voltage with a reference voltage, which is preferably dependent upon engine speed, to develop a compensation current for determining the bias voltage. As shown in Fig. 4, the variable inductor 152 has a movable core 156 which is moved in response to throttle member movement (linkage 148) via a dashpot device 160. In this manner movement of the throttle member causes an initial displacement of the core and hence a value of inductance which is proportional to the rate of change of throttle member movement, the core thereafter returning gradually to its initial position.
