Abstract
A tachometer arrangement comprises a first counter 19 adapted to count the cycles of an input tachometer signal, a second counter 21 adapted to count the cycles of a clock frequency, trigger means adapted to produce a trigger signal when the second counter 21 reaches a predetermined count, a logic device (18) adapted to receive the signal from the trigger means, to cause the counters to pass their period counts to data latches 24, 25 upon the completion of the next tachometer signal cycle after receipt of the trigger signal, and to reset the counters immediately, a computing device 23 being provided which is adapted to perform a calculation on the stored information in the data latches 24, 25 and to produce an output indicative of the rotational speed implied thereby. The trigger means may form part of the computing device 23. The tachometer comprises a transducer which co-operates with a magnetised marker on a rotating shaft (Figure 1, not shown). The shaft is driven by an electric motor and the computing device may be programmed by thumb wheel switches 26, 27, 28 to cut off the supply of electricity to the motor at a predetermined speed. <IMAGE>
