Abstract

A tool-bit for drilling and reaming comprises a drill portion 13 of smaller effective diameter and a reaming portion 14 of larger effective diameter with cutting edges, on hard metal plates 4, 4', 5, 6. The drill portion has cutting edges on two hard metal plates 19, 19' secured by cross-head screws to be releasable and repositioned or replaced. Alternatively, the drill portion has teeth forming forward extensions of the reaming edges. The spacing of the cutting edges of the portion 14 is greatly unequal, and the two swarf-removal chambers are deeper than the other chambers. The portion 13 has a lead angle 16 of 30 DEG , 0 DEG or is negative and the reaming portion lead angle 17 may be 45 DEG . In the end of the tool-bit is a recess which serves for accurate location during regrinding and is approached but not impaired by the deepest chambers. <IMAGE>
