Abstract

200,696. Russell, R. J. July 10, 1922. Shaft couplings; shafts and shafting. - Hollow propeller shafts having a central rod or bolt for holding the parts together axially should the shaft break are provided with a clamp whereby the united parts can be used for transmitting power. The hollow shaft, Fig. 1, is recessed at the ends to take the head of a central bolt a at one end and the nut B at the other end. Keys are used to secure the nut against rotation. A clamp D in two parts is adapted to be placed over a fracture and bolted up. The clamp may be further secured by drilling holes in it and the shaft through which steel plugs or bolts may be passed. Specification 832/99 is referred to.
