Abstract

A component liquid in a mixture of liquids is separated therefrom by first heating the mixture to a certain temperature in heat exchanger 4 and then spraying the heated mixture through nozzles 11 into a vacuum chamber 5. The temperature to which the mixture is heated is determined by obtaining the boiling points of the liquid components in the mixture at the reduced pressure of the vacuum chamber, and then selecting the temperature so that this is above the boiling point of the liquid to be separated but below the boiling point of the other liquid or liquids at the reduced pressure. When the heated mixture is sprayed into the vacuum chamber, the liquid with the low temperature boiling point vapourises and can be drawn off as vapour and condensed in chamber 12. <IMAGE>
