Abstract

Burner assemblies for, e.g. blast furnace or coke oven gas, can suffer from deposit build-up in fuel inlet ducts the manual removal of which is not usually feasible. Such deposits can at least be reduced by cleaning with, e.g., saturated steam directed through nozzles located in the duct upstream of, and directed towards, the outlet end thereof. An annular duct has an annular sectionalised distributor 50 in which nozzles 52 are located and directed towards the duct outlet. Fluid is selectively fed to the distributor sections by valve means 54, 56. The cylindrical duct can have a straight distributor 100 having nozzles 102 disposed helically thereof (Figure 5 - not shown). Optionally, other nozzles 60, 62, 64 are directed against specific surfaces of the duct (Figure 3 - not shown). <IMAGE>
