Abstract

The invention relates to a mould for making refractory bricks. Four pins 15 (Fig. 2) are supported on a platform 16 carried on the end of a pneumatic piston rod 20. The upper ends of the pins 15 support a platform carrying ten vertical pins 18 extending through passages in the mould bottom plate 11. When the pneumatic piston rod 20 is fully raised the pins 18 project through the bottom plate 11 to locate and support side walls 21 of a mould. When the pneumatic piston rod 20 is fully lowered the pins 18 are retracted below the top surface of the mould bottom plate 11. The mould side walls 21 are then free to be removed outwardly of the mould, allowing a moulded and compressed brick to be freely removed from the bottom plate. The pins 18 can be replaced by a sleeve fitting around the mould for support. A vibrating pressing plunger can be used. <IMAGE>
