Abstract

199,292. Barraclough, J. C., and Holmes, J. F. Aug. 21, 1922. Driving-gear.-The connecting-rod of a steam engine is divided into two parts 12, 4, the part 12 being secured to the crosshead and the part 4 to the driven member. The part 4 is pivoted to a slotted link 8 pivoted at 9, while the outer end of the part 12 slides in a slot in the link. By means of a hand-operated linkage, the part 12 can be moved along the link from the fulldrive position shown into intermediate positions to vary the stroke until it reaches the top of the link when the driven member can revolve without reciprocating the piston.
