Abstract

196,115. Phillipson, G. A. Jan. 26, 1922. Rotary scraper apparatus.-Apparatus used for drying and neutralizing crude ammonium sulphate comprises a casing A divided into four compartments by shelves G<1> - - G<4>. Passing from a hopper F, the material enters a valve E which acts as an air lock and on falling to the first shelf G<1> is swept towards the openings J<1> by means of arms (not shown) fastened to the axle C. After falling on to shelf G<2>, the sulphate is conveyed to an opening J<2> when it falls to the next shelf and continues in a similar manner until it reaches a shoot K. Preferably the valvular feeding device E is geared with the axle C. The shelves are heated by steam or any hot gas introduced into the recesses H. Ammonia, with or without hot gases, is passed into each chamber, and outlets are provided to enable the excess ammonia and other gases such as pyridine to be removed by suction.
