Abstract

195,591. Bang, S. H. March 30, 1922, [Convention date]. Breech actions. sliding breech-block; adapting for blank ammunition; barrels.-A gas-operated gun is provided at the muzzle with a detachable cap having two cylindrical borings, one fitting on the barrel 1 and the other forming the gas cylinder for the piston 23. In front of these two borings, which are open at both ends, is a single chamber 17, into which the barrel projects, communicating with the front of the gas cylinder and formed with an aperture 21 for the bullet. The piston 23 in its forward position, projects slightly into the chamber and prevents the deposit of sludge in the cylinder. During its backward movement, the piston uncovers ports 19 which communicate with the atmosphere. The cap is secured by a rotary ring 24 screwed to the cap and having flanges 25 adapted to engage behind flanges 10 on a block 2 fixed to the barrel. The movement of the piston is communicated to a straight-pull breech slide by a single straight piston rod 4 the rear end of which bears against a stud 31, Figs. 1 and 4, which forms the end of a spring plunger 32 in the handle 33. The return spring 37 engages the rear side of the stud 31. The cap may be replaced by a cap for blank ammunition, the opening 21 being made smaller, or by a tube for ejecting grenades.
