Abstract

192,165. Dangerfield, A., Ware, M. L., Seaton, J., and Heuschkel, A. F. Oct. 27, 1921. Helical blade conveyers.-Relates to apparatus for drying or cooling blood, meat, grain &c. by means of air or gas, of the type comprising a series of conveyer troughs arranged in a chamber and through which the material is traversed in contact with a counter-current of gas drawn through the chamber by a fan, and consists in delivering the material from the bottom trough through an aperture in the wall of the chamber so that the material will be cooled and ready for bagging. The invention consists further in the provision of a furnace having a controlled cold air inlet in addition to two controlled flues for admitting gas from the furnace into the chimney or chamber. As shown, the material is fed by a conveyer k, Fig. 1 into the upper of a series of superposed troughs e having rotary traversing shafts with adjustable helical blades g and inserted in the floor-plates s, and discharged from the bottom troughs through apertures e<1> in the chamber wall into a trough r. Air and gas is drawn by a fan 12, Fig. 2 through apertures t at alternate ends of the floors and thence through a dust. depositing chamber b having filtering screens 10 to the chimney. Air is admitted through an adjustable aperture 5, Fig. 6, in the furnace.
