Abstract
12,426. Platt Bros. & Co., and Hall, H. P. Aug. 30. Driving - arrangements.-In a changegear applicable to machinery for spinning cotton waste, wool, and other fibrous materials, similar gear-wheels b, d are secured on driving and driven shafts a, c, carried in the separable parts h, i of a casing, and are geared together by connected wheels f, g carried loosely on a spindle k in arms m formed on the underside of a removable lid n. The lid is secured in position by screws r, and the arms are so arranged that, when the lid n and shaft k are reversed, the wheels b, g and f, d gear together to give a higher speed. Letters A, B, C on the box and lid may be employed to distinguish the different positions of the parts. A number of lids carrying wheels of different ratio may be used and, in one case, the wheels may be of equal size. A pair or group of shafts and a train of gearing, of which the first and last wheels gear with the wheels b, d, may be substituted for the spindle k and wheels f, g. The spindles and delivery and drawing rollers may be driven from the shaft c, and the twist tubes be driven independently by chain gearing from the shaft a or the shaft c.
