Abstract

1925. Birmingham Small Arms Co., and Norman, G. Feb. 27, 1914. Breech actions, sliding breech-block; szghts; attaching weapons to guns. -Consists in the employment, in a gas-operated rifle, of a combined gas - cylinder, foresight mounting, and bayonetattachment lug, and in methods of mounting the cylinder and combined parts on the barrel. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cylinder 1, carrying the foresight mounting 3 and the bayonet-attachment lug 2, is at its forward end screwed concentrically on to the barrel and is locked by a transverse bolt 8, which has a gap 10 so that, by turning the bolt by a handle 11, it can be brought into an unlocking position. The bolt may be screw - threaded, as shown. In a modified form of attachment, Fig. 4, the cylinder 1 fits on ribs 16 on the barrel 6 and is held by a nut 17, which is locked by a bolt 18.
