Upward-current classifiers; washing - apparatus with screens; amalgamating.-An apparatus for separating minerals from alluvial wash comprises an adjustably-inclined trunk B with an inlet hopper A, and having its bottom made up of a grid C and a number of tables D between which are narrow passages E communicating at their lower ends with hoppers K having discharge pipes with transparent portions N between valves P, Q. The material is supplied to the hopper A, and water is supplied below a grid C and the passages E through pipes H. The tailings pass away at the upper end of the trunk B, while the mineral passes into the hoppers K. Riffles may be formed in the surface of the hoppers to contain mercury.
