Abstract
148,168. Schranz, H. Dec. 27, 1916, [Convention date]. Pneumatic separating.-A carrier is formed of material, such as artificial stone, which is porous to liquids or gas but does not allow the solid particles to pass through. In the form shown in Fig. 1, where water is used for classifying purposes, a1, a2, and a3 are porous carriers on to which the ore is fed from a.hopper h, the water being fed through pipes d1, d2, and d3 into separate sections divided by the walls c, thence passing through the carriers to the ores. The apparatus is jolted by the rotating lifting-wheel e aided by springs g1, the motion thus produced causing the mixture of ore to stratify into horizontal layers. The specifically heavier material is drawn off through delivery pipes b1 b2, and b3, while the lighter materials float off with the water through the overflow conduit b4. In a modification, the trough is made in the form of a gutter from porous material with the exit end constricted in sectional area. The material when fed in meets a current of air or water, and at the same time is subjected to a jolting action, being classinsd into layers which pass off in succession over the sides of the gutter at the constricted end.
