Elevated railways. -Relates to the transference of telphers between tracks at different levels by means of a spiral track and a rotating push-rail, and comprises means for ensuring the telphers engaging the push-rail at the proper moment. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in which a spiral push-rail 2 fixed to a vertical rotating shaft 4 is employed, the telpher comes to rest in the position 5<1> opposite a normally dead section 12. As the rail 2 rotates, a cam 8 thereon engages a spring switch arm 9 and momentarily energizes the section 12, thus giving an impulse to the telpher prior to the engagement of the rail 2 therewith. As the telpher ascends the track 1 it engages a switch 13 and energizes a section 15 permitting the next telpher to run on to the section 12. As the telpher reaches the end of the track 1 it engages a switch 16 to de-energize the section 15. In the arrangement for lowering a telpher by means of a straight push-rail 2 shown in Fig. 3, the telpher 21 runs off the live rail and is brought to rest by the de-energizing of the brake magnet. An abutment 20 on an endless chain 19 driven from the push-rail 2 engages a lever on the telpher and takes off the brake and then feeds forward the telpher on to the track 1 just behind the push-rail.
