Contacts, mechanical; miniature signals; recording signals. - Relates to apparatus for giving signals on engines from the track, of the type in which a sliding rod, arranged on the engine, carries at one end an index moving over a table provided with as many divisions as there are signals, and at the other end a roller engaging with fixed and movable tracks, parallel with the line. The track is provided with an extra projection which operates a checking-device if the driver disregards the signals. The rod d, Fig. 1, carrying the roller e, slides on the bar c and has an index j moving over the divisions b on the table a. A tappet k sounds the bell m whenever the rod d is raised, and the tappet l operates the wheel n of the checking-device should the rod d be raised as far as possible. The movable track consists of a T-iron connected to alternated cranked supports u, Figs. 2 and 3, rotated in bearings v by a chain &c. z, connected to the operating-lever 2 of the quadrant 3. The position of the lever 2 determines the height to which the track is raised, and consequently the position of the index j on the table a. The track has an inclined part r, a level part s, and an inclined or projecting part t to operate the wheel n, should the engine not be stopped before the roller e engages the part t. A preliminary signal is given to the engine by means of a fixed track, similar to the movable one.
