Abstract

10,836. Ransford, R. B., [Cassella & Co., L.]. May 4. Fabrics woven to produce figured effects on dyeing; yarns specially treated, fabrics with.- Woven fabrics having two or more colours are produced by weaving into the fabric yarns containing metals or metallic salts, such as copper, lead, iron, cobalt, or their sulphides, then dyeing the fabric with an organic dyestuff, and afterwards treating with hydrogen peroxide, the metals or metallic salts acting as catalytic agents and enabling the hydrogen peroxide to bleach the yarns containing them. To produce more elaborate effects, yarns composed of different kinds of fibre may be employed, or parts of the yarn which would otherwise be bleached may be treated with a dye unaffected by hydrogen peroxide. According to one method. yarn mordanted with tannic acid is treated with a solution of copper acetate and then with a solution of sodium sulphide. When this yarn has been woven into a fabric, the fabric is dyed with an organic dye, and, after rinsing, is treated in a warm bath of hydrogen peroxide until the prepared yarn is completely discoloured.
