Abstract

5155. Albion Motor Car Co., and Murray, T., B. March 4. Gas and like engines, igniting in. In a magnetoelectric or like generator for igniting. in multicylinder motors, of modified Pacinotti ring type having stationary armature and windings and a rotating field, narrow air-gaps are made. in the armature-ring between adjacent windings. Semicircular magnets A are carried by a spider B on a rotating shaft C, while the armature consists of sector-shaped laminations D on a fixed non-magnetic spider E, the pieces D carrying windings G, each connected to the opposite winding either in parallel or in series and being separated by air-gaps H. The armature coils being short-circuted, and the circuit being broken when their currants are greatest, use is made of the currents self-induced owing to the collapse of the magnetic field, which is helped by the air-gaps. Instead of semicircular magnets, straight bar magnets, as described in Specification No. 14,732, A.D. 1902, or electro-magnets, may be used.
