Abstract

4849. Ravenshaw, H. W., Middleton, V. G., and Townsend, W. E. Feb. 27. Clutches.-In order to prevent the adherence of magnetic friction clutches when demagnetized, extra gaps are formed in the annular trough surrounding the coil. In the arrangement shown in Fig. I, besides the gaps between the trough 1 and the armature 4, an additional break is provided for by making the trough in two parts 10, 11 bolted together. In Fig. II, a part 13 is shown secured to the armature 4. The gaps may be filled with insulating-material or they may be air-gaps.
