Abstract

1492886 Magnetic contact units; electromagnetic relays STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 21 Oct 1975 43125/75 Heading H1N A magnetic contact unit with a diaphragm movable contact 3 has the periphery of the diaphragm secured between a ferromagnetic cap 4 and a non-magnetic insulating annulus 2 secured to the cap by a turned over portion of the skirt of the cap, the fixed contact being on the end 13 of a polepiece 1 secured the central aperture of the annulus 2. Such a contact unit may be fitted at one or both ends of a coil and former assembly (Figs. 3, 7, 9, 11, not shown) with connector 16, 17 for terminals or with connections made to a lead frame and encapsulated in epoxy resin (Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 6, not shown). An outer flux return member may extend over the coil and end cap. The diaphragm may be 50/50 nickel iron plated with hard gold in the central contact and when it engages the gold plated end 13 of the nickel plated mild steel polepiece 1 on coil energization.
