Abstract

11,883. Gessner, E. June 7. Lap-forming apparatus. -The fleece from a carding-engine is divided into sections of equal length, which are laid in succession upon a travelling apron I and formed into a lap. The apparatus comprises a revolving and verticallyoscillating balanced frame A, carrying at each end teeth E and also hinged plates F with teeth on their free edges. The plates F are hinged at f, and are perforated at f<1> to accommodate the teeth E. As the frame A revolves, the plates F fall alternately as shown, thereby separating the section of fleece on the plate from the main body thereof fed by the apron W, and laying it on to the apron I. The fleece is simultaneously stripped from the teeth E, which are in the lowest position, by the edges of the apertures f<1>, The frame is rotated by the gearing 1, 2, and oscillated about the axle D by the cam G resting on the roller H. The teeth E may be arranged to slide in the frame, and be withdrawn for stripping purposes by springs and protruded by means of cams. Or the plates F may have both edges provided with teeth, the teeth nearest the hinge being stripped at the proper time by a sliding spring flap.
