Abstract
21,126. Grossmann, J. Oct. 7. Hyposulphurous acid and hyposulphites. - Insoluble or sparingly-soluble hyposulphites, which are comparatively stable, are prepared by reducing calcium, barium, zinc, or lead sulphite or bisulphite with zinc and sulphuric acid, and then adding a hydrate, such as milk of lime. The calcium or other sulphate may be filtered off before adding the milk of lime. In a modification, a solution of neutral or slightly-alkaline hyposulphite, such as of sodium, or of hyposulphurous acid, may be treated with the hydrate, oxide, or chloride of calcium, barium, or zinc to precipitate the corresponding insoluble hyposulphite. The acid may be made from the insoluble or sparingly-soluble hyposulphite by adding a suitable acid, such as sulphuric acid, or an acid salt.
