Abstract

Candles, lamps in form of. - In an oil lamp of candle form having a casing charged with absorbent material, a charging- receptacle is fitted at an intermediate position in the length of casing. The receptacle e has the form of a cup from which the oil passes into the casing a through holes a<3> therein. The wicktube b is supported by partitions a', a<2> and the wick is raised bv two wick - adjusting wheels c, carried by a spindle c<1>, which protrudes through a slot b<1> in the tube b, while the bracket by which the spindle is carried may be subject to the action of a spring tending to maintain the toothed wheels with a certain pressure in contact with the wick. The wheels c are operated by rotating the spindle c<1>; or alternatively, a cap d, fitted over the upper end of the casing and permitting the passage of air to the burner may be rotatably fitted and internally threaded to engage the wheels c. In order to prevent the absorbent material from jambing the wick, a spiral coil of wire h is provided for the lamp and the lower end of the wick tube. A base f may be provided for the lamp and the lower end of the casing is permanently closed or closed by a removable plug g.
