Abstract

182,132. Elmes Engineering Works, C. F., (Assignees of Matter, A. J.). June 25, 1921, [Convention date]. Presses.-An automatic press comprises two or more similar sections all controlled from a single cam shaft. Each section includes a ram 11, Fig. 1, carrying a die 16 and working in a hydraulic cylinder 6 in a base member 2, and a pivotally mounted head 21 carrying a die 23. The head 21 is raised through gearing by an hydraulic cylinder having a cam-controlled valve, is lowered by a gravity and a spring, and is held in its lowest position by spacer blocks 22 on cam-operated sleeves 8. The ram 11 has spring retracting- means 55, Fig. 5, and a control valve 45 operated by a cam 49, a by-pass 43 to the exhaust B being controlled by a valve 46 operated by connections with the means for operating the spacer blocks 22. The valve 46 may also be operated at any time by a pedal 80. The dies are provided with circulating passages P for hot and cold fluids, the supply of which is controlled by cam-operated valves, and cam-operated ejector mechanism is provided in connection with the lower die.
