Rolling motion of ships, damping; pontoons. - Means for damping the rolling motion of ships comprises a hollow cylindrical buoyant body 2 detachably connected to each side of the ship 1 above the water-line and provided with paddle-wheels 8, screws 7, and compressed-air engines for propulsion when detached from the ship. The bodies 2 are connected to the ship by tubing 3 and have telescopic ends 5 which can be extended by compressed air passed through the tubing 3 and contracted by chains 6 and winches.
