Abstract

173,085. Blackmore, A. C. Oct. 1, 1920. Auxiliary foot propelling mechanism; free-wheel gearing. - Relates to motor attachments for ordinary cycles of the kind in which two chainwheels, rigidly connected, are mounted upon the pedal-crank spindle through a ratchet clutch, one wheel being driven from the engine and the other driving chain-wheel on the rear axle. According to the present invention the two chain-wheels 1, 2 are mounted, through ball-bearing rings 8, 10, on a boss 5 which is integral with the pedal crank 4 and is fixed to the elongated bottom-bracket spindle 6 by a cotter or other pin 7, so that these chain-wheels with the pedal form a readily-removable unit. A roller ratchet clutch 13 is disposed between the bearing-ring 8, which is screwed on the boss 5, and the chain-wheels.
