Abstract
The carrier or support for a catalyst for the production of acetone from acetic acid, is made of aluminium. By vigorously stirring the molten metal as it cools, rough porous granules are produced upon which the catalyst, e.g. an oxide, hydrate, carbonate or acetate of calcium or barium, can be deposited by placing the granules in a solution or suspension thereof and evaporating to dryness. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), describes the use as carrier of any substance of high heat conductivity, such as metal or alloys, and moreover is not confined to the manufacture of acetone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Acetone is obtained by passing acetic acid vapour over a catalyst, such as an oxide, hydrate, carbonate or acetate of calcium or barium mounted upon aluminium as a carrier. By vigorously stirring molten aluminium as it cools, rough porous granules are produced, upon which the catalyst can be deposited by placing the granules in a solution or suspension thereof and evaporating to dryness. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the use as carrier of any substance of high heat conductivity, such as metals or alloys; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
